At 38 meters “Platinum” is one of Australia’s most luxurious ships. Designed by Alan Muir and built in Launceston by Jack Macceddie from Macceddie Marine to Lloyds specs.
I was asked by Jack to fly down to Launceston and design both MTU Detroit main engine exhaust and 3 x Caterpillar generator exhaust systems. The hull was virtually bare at this stage except for a fire system cylinder mounted on the starboard side, approx midships. Well, would you believe, this happened to be the best position for one of the main engine mufflers. So after mentioning this to Jack, I was politely told to f#^k o*f and come up with something else! After measuring up for the day and working closely with the Lloyds surveyor, I returned a few months later to install all five systems. All steel bulkhead penetrations were lined with a specially designed fibreglass sleeve to prevent corrosion. The exhaust systems were all installed to plan, was sea trialled some months later with perfect results delivered. The main engine exhaust outlets were positioned in such a way that a venturi was created providing premium noise attenuation and very low exhaust temperatures. Jack was very appreciative, great to work for, and a true gentleman!
I have bumped into Jack at the odd boat show and from all reports everything is going well. This was technically a difficult job but made easier by close collaboration with the builder and having a clear understanding of his expected outcome. It was e very challenging but enjoyable project from my point of view, and great to be in Launceston for a week working on “Platinum”.

Steven Fleming from Brisbane Coast Guard contacted us again recently to replace an old stainless steel exhaust pipe on one of their vessels fitted with our mufflers.
Steve informed us that the mufflers had done over 30,000 hours, been hooked up to its third pair of engines and still as good as new. Not a bad result!!! Thank you Steve, you guys do an fantastic job.

Windcheetah Charters, WA chooses cost effective
Windcheetah Charters operates out of Geographe Bay, 229 klms south of Perth, WA.
Florrie Lynch runs his 15 mtr sailing catamaran in these beautiful waters and over the wreck of the HMAS “Swan” a purposely sunken wreck that attracts divers from all over the world.
So when Florrie realised his old mufflers were looking sad and tired,he decided to upgrade to a Foreshore Marine Waterlock Muffler. He is operating in a very remote area and needs parts and systems to be 100% reliable. We provided Florrie with a very cost effective exhaust system that was only marginally more expensive than a plastic muffler. Anyone who has ever suffered the melt down of a plastic muffler and the subsequent engine room mess would never choose plastic again. Please call Brad Gorman on 0418 978 528 to discuss a cost effective exhaust solution.

At 36 metres Shirley Anne is one of the most elegant motor yachts in Australia. Foreshore Marine Exhaust redesigned the underwater exhaust system. Foreshore mufflers replaced the existing aluminium units to DNV specs. Increased efficiency, greater noise attenuation from exhaust by pass and lower exhaust temperatures were the result.

Jack Gard loves his 28 Bertie, loves fishing from it in his home waters off Tassie, but hates the noise from the V8′s after trolling all day. We made some mufflers to the same dimensions as the old rubber mufflers. Jack did the install himself.

At 170 feet, Sea Horse is probably one the most luxurious motor yachts in the world today.
Foreshore Marine Exhaust is re designing the generator exhaust systems for improved efficiency and better noise attenuation. Foreshore Marine Exhaust also fitted a custom underwater exhaust to “Sacs”, tender to Sea Horse. Sacs running 700 Hp aside Iveco diesels was producing approx. 115 DBA at full load and 90 DBA at idle. With the new mufflers, sound was reduced to below 65 DBA.
Foreshore Marine also redesigned and fitted new underwater fairings to the main engine exhaust outlets. The new fairings were CAD designed at nearly 1 meter long and 500mm high. They were formed in a steel press, meaning they could be fitted and painted immediately, to work in with a strict time frame. The resulting lower exhaust temps delivered less engine heat and wear and most of all, better fuel economy. “Seahorse” regularly crosses oceans, fuel economy is a very important factor.

When it comes to designing and building powercats, Peter Brady is pretty much the king. His designs are renowned worldwide for the technology incorporated into his builds.
His latest masterpiece is “REHAB” a 17.4 Mtr Pilothouse Powercat. Peter selected only the finest equipment for his new build. We are proud to be associated with the design and supply
of the exhaust systems. Peter was fantastic to work with and was always making sure all exhaust concepts were the best they could be. “REHAB” did a 4500nm shakedown cruise and performed faultlessly in all sea conditions.
Multihull World (Nov/Dec 2014) have done a fantastic story on “REHAB” and I suggest having a look at the future in Australian catamaran building. Congratulations Peter, see more information at www.pathfinderpowercats.com

Nova Cruises based in Newcastle NSW run a very professional operation consisting of two vessels. One 30 mtr restaurant cruise and a 16 mtr charter catamaran.
Owner Peter Hanrahan had used our systems before and contacted us firstly to reduce the exhaust noise on his 6 cylinder Cummins genset, and secondly the muffler was corroded.
“Our neighbours are complaining about the noise – its pretty ordinary”, said Peter.
Peter needed something that would deliver premium noise attenuation and was simple and quick to change out. There was no need to reinvent the wheel so we designed a modern, high tech version of the old muffler he had installed.
Result: Peter reports all that is audible is the cooling water hitting the harbour! We have since delivered new mufflers to the main engines with similar results.

Steve Matthews is a Tug skipper and has been involved with boats all his life. So naturally, he owns a HMG 43.
Steve absolutely loves this iconic Australian beauty, but the “drone” from the Detroit Diesels was pretty ordinary.
Steve purchased some mufflers from another supplier and was told they were the best for the job. Well, they were not. Steve called me and we talked about modifying his existing mufflers. No need to go to the cost of new mufflers, just some basic, proven technology needed to be added. Steve cut the bases off his mufflers and performed some internal surgery. Since refitting the “new” mufflers, Steve cannot believe the difference!
He says: “The noise has dropped 50% and it feels like a new boat!”
We have modified all of our competitors mufflers with the same result – proof that our technology is the most advanced available in the world today. You simply cannot beat experience.

Built by Oceanfast, MY “Eendracht”, is simply a stunning vessel. At 120 feet in length and powered by MTU diesels and Perkins generators, she is one of the finest Motor Yachts in the world today.
Her new owner required better performance from both main engine and generator exhaust systems. Foreshore Marine Exhaust designed a new generator exhaust system and modified the old Centek mufflers to deliver premium noise attenuation.
The main engine mufflers also had some open heart surgery. We removed the bases of the Centek mufflers and added new internal baffles. The results have been, to say the least, outstanding. Foreshore Marine Exhaust have proven they are world leaders in innovation, again. Our competitors supply the same mufflers for all marine engines. Our mufflers are designed FOR EACH APPLICATION. Experience is key, without that, delivering a solution to a highly technical problem, is impossible.
We are the first company worldwide, to fit internal baffles into our Waterlift and Waterlock mufflers. We have modified all of our competitors mufflers, with our sytems, to prove a point, you cannot beat experience.

At 203 Ft long, MY “Suri” is one of the most unique vessels of its type. Built in 1978 in the USA she was originally named “Fierce Contender” being a star in the famous series “Worlds Deadliest Catch”. After a 12 million dollar upgrade MY Suri was born. A beautiful ‘go anywhere’-vessel fully equipped with a gym, helicopter, sea plane and all the toys and luxury that goes with a charter fee of US $375,000 p/week, and that’s off peak!
So when her brand new 3508 Caterpillars rated at 1100 HP were tested with a high back pressure reading of over 1000mm H20, the gurus in San Diego gave it a whirl and came up short. We were contacted in October 2013 and flew up to Brisbane to asses the exhaust system. It needed a complete re design including a new spray ring in the water injector, new muffler and piping. The Chief Engineer did not want to change the existing overboard valving so the new exhaust was designed to incorporate that.
We sea trialled last week and reported back pressure at under 500mm H20. Cooling Veins were also fitted to keep wet exhaust temperature to a minimum.A very good outcome considering the job was technically very difficult.
Great job done on the muffler installation by the guys at Norman Wrights and engineering by David Baddiley.
